Yoshi and the Mysterious Book Launching in May
Yoshi and the Mysterious Book: New Adventure Set for Nintendo Switch 2 Launch This May
To celebrate MAR10 Day 2026, Nintendo has officially pulled back the curtain on the next major adventure for my favourite character from the Mushroom Kingdom and Dinosaur Island - Yoshi. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is slated to arrive exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 this spring, bringing a fresh, storybook-inspired aesthetic to the beloved platforming series.
The announcement came alongside a new gameplay trailer that showcases Yoshi’s journey into the pages of Mr. E (Mister Encyclopedia), a sentient, talking book. Moving away from the yarn and cardboard themes of previous titles, this installment features a "living encyclopedia" art style where environments react like pop-up illustrations and ink-drawn sketches.
Release Date and Pricing
Nintendo has confirmed that fans won’t have to wait long to jump into the pages.
Release Date: May 21, 2026
Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 (Exclusive)
Price (USD): $59.99 (Standard MSRP)
Price (GBP): £49.99
Gameplay Features: Discover, Feed, and Name
The core of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book revolves around exploration and documentation. As Yoshi traverses various "Chapters," he must interact with strange creatures to fill out the encyclopedia’s missing entries.
The Glubbit & Bubble Mechanics: A highlight of the new trailer is a frog-like creature named the Glubbit (or whatever you want to to call it). After Yoshi "samples" the creature (and finds it untasty and spits it out), it blows bubbles that Yoshi can hop into to reach higher platforms.
Experimental Feeding: Players can feed creatures different types of fruit found in the levels. This changes the properties of the creatures' abilities—for instance, feeding a Glubbit a "Spicy Berry" might create fire-resistant bubbles.
Creature Naming: In a first for the series, players can officially name the species they discover. While Mr. E offers scientific suggestions, the final entry in the book belongs to the player.
Story Stakes: While the game maintains a "comfy" and accessible difficulty, the appearance of Bowser Jr. suggests that Yoshi’s research mission will face some royal interference.
Additional Info: The 40th Anniversary Push
The launch of Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is a cornerstone of the Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary celebration. It follows closely behind the highly anticipated Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which hits theaters on April 1, 2026. Interestingly, the game release aligns with the hype surrounding Donald Glover, who was recently revealed as the voice of Yoshi in the upcoming film.
Out of Sync Gaming Take
Its no secret at Out of Sync Gaming that Yoshi is my favourite Mario character. I’m biased, but I’m excited about this game. I think the Yoshi games peaked with the first game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island, but most of them have still been fun to play. They sit that in that cozy platform experience, where there is a lot to collect and the challenge can scale depending on your play style. I’ll be picking this game up on day one! What about you? Are you excited for Yoshi’s next outting? What are you going to call the Glubbit? Let me know in the comments below.
