Nintendo Switch 2 continues to break sales records
Nintendo Switch 2 continues to dominate the console market with strong sales
It turns out the world really, really wanted a new Nintendo console. Seven months into its life cycle, the Nintendo Switch 2 is officially a juggernaut. Recent data from market analysts paints a picture of a console that isn't just succeeding—it’s rewriting the history books.
Breaking Records in the UK and Beyond
According to the latest figures from Circana (Mat Piscatella) and Famitsu, the Switch 2 has reached some staggering milestones as of January 2026:
The US Success: The console ended 2025 with 4.4 million units sold in the US alone, making it the fastest-selling home console in US history.
Japan Dominance: In its home territory, it has already cleared 4 million units, effectively outselling the lifetime sales of the legendary GameCube in record time.
Global Momentum: Nintendo has recently revised its fiscal year sales forecast from 15 million to a whopping 19 million units by March 2026.
Why Is It Selling So Fast?
The secret to the Switch 2's success seems to be its seamless transition. By offering full backward compatibility with original Switch games while providing a massive "Pro-level" jump in graphics, Nintendo has made a convincing argument for why players should upgrade.
With games like Donkey Kong Bonanza, Cyberpunk 2077 and the recently released Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade getting positive reviews for it’s performance on the system, there is a lot of options for owners of the system.
A Bright Future for 2026
With rumors (or maybe wishful hoping!) of a new 3D Mario to soon be announced along with the list of games we know are coming in 2026, can the Switch 2 keep up it’s sales momentum, or will it face headwinds in it’s second year on the market?
