Pokémon Winds & Waves Revealed: Gen 10, FireRed on Switch, and 30th Anniversary News

The Big One: Pokémon Winds & Pokémon Waves

The rumors were true! Generation 10 is officially titled Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves.

Developing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, Game Freak is taking us to a new, island-themed region focused on vast oceanic exploration and volcanic landscapes. However, patience is a virtue: the games are slated for a 2027 release, marking the longest gap between generations in the franchise’s history.

Meet Your New Starters:

  • Browt (Grass): The "Bean Chick" Pokémon.

  • Pombon (Fire): The "Puppy" Pokémon (already a fan favorite).

  • Gecqua (Water): The "Water Gecko" Pokémon.

In a huge win for accessibility, Gen 10 will be the first in the series to officially support Brazilian Portuguese.

Retro Revivals: Kanto Returns (Again)

If you missed the classic GBA era, you’re in luck. Starting today, Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen are available on the Nintendo Switch eShop for £16.99 / $19.99 each. These are the original GBA versions with added Pokémon HOME integration coming later this year.

For the GameCube fans, the "Shadow Pokémon" era is finally back. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will join the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack library in March 2026.

Pokémon Champions

Launching in April 2026, this is the ultimate battle simulator. It unifies gimmicks from every generation—Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Dynamax, and Terastallization—into one competitive format. It’s coming to both the Switch first and a mobile version as well.

Pokémon Pokopia

We got another look at the cozy town-builder launching March 5, 2026. It features 4-player co-op, a "DJ Rotom" form that lets you play classic tracks in your town, and a new character, Chef Dente, who helps you cook region-specific treats for your Pokémon.

TCG & Mobile Updates

  • TCG Pocket: A new booster set, Paldean Wonders, is live now with daily login bonuses.

  • Physical TCG: A 30th Anniversary Celebration set featuring classic reprints and "Tag Team" returns was teased for late 2026.

  • Pokémon GO: Celebrating its 10th anniversary with the "All Out" event (March 7-8). Use code GOTOURKALOS for a special encounter!

  • Pokémon Sleep: Mew missions are live tonight. Yes, you can finally catch a Mythical while you’re unconscious.

The "Wait, What?" Announcement: Game Boy Jukebox

In the most "Nintendo" move of the day, they announced a miniature Game Boy music player. It’s a standalone device that comes with 45 tiny cartridges, each containing a track from the original Red and Blue games. It’s essentially a high-end "HitClips" for Poké-maniacs. It's adorable, it's unnecessary, and I’m sure it’s probably going to sell out.

Out of Sync Gaming Take

I for one am happy to see they are not rushing the next Gen games out just to meet the usual November release date. I’m still not convienced that Game Freak are going to deliver the Pokémon game that is a technical marvel, but at least they are taking a bit longer - hopefully to give the game the polish it needs and the gamers the game we deserve. What announcements from the direct have you excited? Or did you think the whole thing was a bit meh? Let us know in the comments below.
